The Media Vanguard for Change(MVC) notes with satisfaction the unravelling of one Livingstone Wechie and his consequent vindication of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transportation.
In a rare moment of truth, Livingstone Wechie who is the leader of a Port Harcourt-based NGO, miscalled the Integrity Group, made revelations to the effect that he had unjustly accused Rotimi Amaechi of corruption and mismanagement of Rivers State resources during the latter's stint as former governor of Rivers State. It will be recalled that Livingstone Wechie had led the Salem-style brigade that attempted, but failed, to stop the confirmation of Rotimi Amaechi as Minister.
In his public confession, beamed live to a national audience on AIT's Focus Nigeria, Livingstone Wechie confessed that all the documents which he had used to block the Senate confirmation of Rotimi Amaechi were POLITICALLY FABRICATED AND FORGED. He also went ahead to reveal that the judicial panel of enquiry, set up by the Rivers State Government to investigate Rotimi Amaechi, had relied on those fabricated documents to indict the former governor. In an unprecedented show of penitence, Livingstone Wechie confessed that all the forged and fabricated documents were provided by the current Governor of Rivers State, Barr Nyesom Wike, in order to undo Rotimi Amaechi. Just so that people will take his words serious, Livingstone Wechie repeated these confessional statements in a press release which he signed and issued yesterday, 17 July 2017.
As shocking as these revelations may appear, we are not surprised by them for the simple reason that it is a fact we have known all along. Thus, writing on August 27, 2015 in a Press Statement, the MVC had alerted Nigerians to the plot by the current Governor of Rivers State to use Livingstone Wechie "to sully the hard-earned reputation of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi" and that the petition which Livingstone Wechie had written at the time against Rotimi Amaechi before the EFCC was "laced with lies and full of malice and a distortion of the administration of former governor Amaechi." Today, Rotimi Amaechi has been vindicated and the world can now see the sleight of hand of the current occupant of Rivers State Government House who, it now seems, is so fixated on the former governor that one will not be wrong to assume that he thinks Amaechi and dreams Amaechi.
Livingstone's confession itself and his subsequent penitence remind us of the biblical Roman soldier who, after Christ had been crucified and an earthquake had occurred, had confessed as follows," Surely, He was the Son of God." In like manner, "Surely, Rotimi Amaechi is innocent."
Although the MVC is still not enamoured of Livingstone Wechie, we nonetheless applaud and commend his courage in embracing the Light of Truth. We call on others who may have been inspired by Livingstone to come out of their dark closet and emulate Livingstone.
As for those who still glory in continued falsehood against Rotimi Amaechi, we assure them that truth will always have its day under the sun. And like Dr Martin Luther King Jnr, we "believe that unarmed truth...will have the final word in reality."
