All is now set for the restructuring of the Niger Delter Development Commission in the four years.
Nsima Ekere, managing director of NDDC made it known to newsmen recently at a meeting with the new board members in Abuja.
Accordingly, the NDDC boss assured that the new board members will make some remarkable difference in the lives of the people in the Niger Delta. When explaining how, he said the commision will eliminate problems at the region, noting that banks will be held accountable if found wanting. In doing so, he said the commission will demand back any money paid to the bank that guaranteed a said project if the contractor fails or where the work done doesn’t justify the money that was paid.
Mr Ekere said that the board has also discussed restructuring the balance sheet of the NDDC, stressing that it would involve carrying out a project audit.
In his own words, he said “We have liabilities that run into well over a trillion naira. We will look at the projects that have given rise to this liability. Then, we will vet them and see which projects we can go ahead with and those we will discontinue because some of these projects were even not properly awarded in the first place.
“By the time we carry out the auditing, it will help us. Then of course, the audit will enable us to bring NDDC back to its core mandate." Mr. Ekere
