GAMBIA BANS FEMALE WORKERS FROM LEAVING HAIR UNCOVERED
The Gambian government has banned its female employees from leaving their hair uncovered during working hours.
No reason has been given for the ban which was announced in a memo that was leaked to local opposition newspapers.
The memo stated that all female staff within government departments were no longer allowed to expose their hair, urging them to use a head tie.
President Yahya Jammeh declared the Muslim-majority country an Islamic republic last month.
He added that no dress code would be imposed, and citizens of other faith would be allowed to practise freely.
