A gang of about six notorious armed robbers and kidnappers was arrested around Lokoja and in their confessional statements, they claimed that Senator Dino Melaye is their patron and sponsor. Before then, there were charges of illegal possession of firearms and self-assassination attempts hanging on the Senator’s head.
For weeks, if not months, the Senator was invited by the Police through calls and correspondences, yet he refused to honor the invitations, even when he was seen publicly in many instances. At that point, the Police then declared him a wanted man, in line with the law, and neither the wailers nor his colleagues raised any eyebrow.
Now that the man has been arrested, re-arrested and detained, those who maintained sealed lips before are beginning to wail and gnash their teeth. Let us, please, learn to encourage our law enforcement agencies to do their work without any let or hindrance. Let us also refrain from politicizing criminal actions, be it of herdsmen, separatists, insurgents or lawmakers.
