Why is Wike always playing politics with Ogoni people? He has gone again to say he wants to convert Rivpoly into a University, not just any university, but an environmental University. The environment might currently be a serious issue around the world, but today in this country, how many young Nigerians want to go into environmental profession? Why convert a Polytechnic that offers several courses into an unattractive specialise University, especially after converting the college of education in his own community into a Polytechnic? The Rivers State Polytechnic in Bori is sadly the only institution of government that brings in strangers into Bori, the second biggest town in Rivers State, and demarketing that institution is a carefully orchestrated attempt to completely destroy it and the economy of Bori with it.

I am aware that the distinguished Senator Magnus Abe had proposed a bill on the floor of the National Assembly for the establishment of an environmental university in Ogoni land which they're working on. His intention was not to convert an already existing institution into the University as though we don't need that other institution. His idea was also not that Wike should steal his ideas and implement it badly. This was how this same Wike, being a man bereft of any original idea of his own, stole the Dakuku Peterside's roadmap to prosperity and failing woefully to implement it. Today in Rivers State all we see is a man who flags off the filling of potholes and resurfacing of already existing roads and called himself Mr. Project, even when he's failed woefully in job creation, security, healthcare, environment, agriculture, investment and economic diversification.

Instead of converting Rivpoly into a specialise University, why not convert it into an all-encompassing university? What is wrong with giving Ogoni people one single University that covers different courses, or is it too much for us? Why must any development in Ogoniland under Wike always be on an already existing development, which at the end of the day does not make any tangible difference in the lives of our people? When Wike wanted to do something about education in Ogoni, instead of build new schools or equip all the existing ones, what he did was to renovate BMGS and convert the model secondary school into a campus of Rivpoly. What would've happened if Rivpoly itself was expanded? When he wanted to do road, he only went to dualize one road, the Saakpenwa-Kono road, which he hasn't even completed up to 50% after three years, instead of construct roads in areas where there was no road. For four years, this is all Wike, the governor of the richest state in Nigeria, has done for Ogoni people, and some hungry fools from the area thinks he wants us to progress.

This same Wike, when he took over, stopped funding the education of our sons who were sent to study on scholarship abroad, and today they're roaming the street in Nigeria. This Wike sacked over 300 lecturers who were employed in Rivpoly, and till date he has not filled those vacancies. This same Wike stopped paying all the teachers of the demonstration Secondary school attached to Rivpoly, people who were earning hundreds of thousands of naira were asked to go and die, and a lot of them have obeyed him since. That school was the best secondary school in Bori, class four students there could write and pass WAEC, but today it's no more. Now again, not done with his hatred for Ogoni people, for no reason other than we being too smart for him, he has decided to completely annihilate that institution. Which student now would want to study accounting or management or economics in an Environmental University? And if all those courses would be scrapped as they should if this is truly an environmental University, then what would happen to all those lecturers who are already employed in that school? Wike is playing with fire here.

Someone should go and advise him to take his politics far away from Ogoniland. Ken Saro Wiwa had long ago asked us to go to school and be smart, we can no one be hoodwink by any conman. If Wike thinks we're happy with him for this rubbish or that we're deceived by it then he does not know us very well. We're just looking at him with our left eye and when the time is right, which is not very far from now, we will show him his scorecard in Ogoniland.
