CCT CONVICTS FORMER MINISTER OF NIGER DELTA AFFAIRS, GODSDAY ORUBEBE, FOR FALSE DECLARATION OF ASSETS

''CCT CONVICTS FORMER MINISTER OF NIGER DELTA AFFAIRS, GODSDAY ORUBEBE, FOR FALSE DECLARATION OF ASSETS''

The Code of Conduct Tribunal yesterday convicted a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godsday Orubebe, for failure to declare his Asokoro property in any of the assets declaration forms he completed during his time in office.

In his ruling, Chairman of the CCT, Danladi Umar ordered that the property which Orubebe failed to declare be forfeited to the Federal Government.

Umar said the punishment is in accordance with Section 23 of the Code of Conduct Bureau/Tribunal Act as incorporated under the Fifth Schedule to the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The CCT rejected Orubebe’s defence that he acquired the property after he became minister and sold it before he left office.

In his reaction, Orubebe’s counsel, Larry Selekowei, described the ruling as unfair.
