The House of Representatives is to investigate former Chairman of the Appropriations Committee Abdulmumin Jibrin over allegations he raised that some principal officers allegedly padded the 2016 budget.
The decision to investigate the matter followed a matter of urgent public importance raised by Chairman House Committee on Rules and Business Oker Jev. Honourable Jev, while moving the motion called for the suspension of Honourable Jibrin saying his allegations amounted to a breach of collective privileges of members of the House.
Another lawmaker Ali Madaki, who raised a counter motion, said it would be more honourable for the accused principal officers to resign.
Ruling on the matter, Speaker Yakubu Dogara referred it to the committee on Ethics and Privileges to report back in one week. Speaking on the matter, House spokesman Abdulrazak Namdas expressed confidence that the committee will be fair to all.
Meanwhile, sacked chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin has vowed not to appear before Committee on Ethics and Privileges mandated to investigate him for bringing the House into disrepute with his utterances.
In a statement yesterday, Jibrin said he was willing to appear before the Committee only if its proceedings would be public and witnessed by Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), among others.
