Stop sponsoring crisis in Ogbele community, indigenes warn Rivers Lawmaker By Blessed Oyagiri

Some indigenes of Ogbele community in Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers State has accused a dissident group led by Mr Tony Moore in collaboration with the member representing Ahoada East Constituency 11 in the  Rivers State House of Assemby,Hon.Edison Ehie of instigating crisis in the community. In a statement signed by Okpara Orisa,a former member of the Community Advisory Committee(CAC)noted that the petition against an indigenous oil firm Niger Delta Petroleum Resources(NDPR)operating in the community doesnt emanate from the leadership of the community, rather was sponsored by the member representing Ahoada East Constituency 11 in the Rivers State House of Assembly,Hon.Edison Ehie. He noted that the action of Hon.Edison Ehie and his cohorts was borne out personal interest and not that of the community, adding that after the visit of the members of the State Assembly committee on Public complaints and petition led by the chairman,Hon.Evans Bipi the community is witnessing violence and rancour which was the initial plan of the member representing the area to cause havoc that will lead to destruction of lives and property. Mr Orisa pointed out that development is a gradual process that can be pursued through the statutory organs mandated by the community to liaise between the community and the company based on the 5% trust fund meant for the development of the community as contained in the Momorandum of Understanding(MoU). He said the petition remained invalid because it was borne out of greed, bias and personal interest by those who conspired to threaten the peace of the community, adding that it also violates the Memorandum of Understanding(MoU)which stipulates that any issue of development, employment and empowerment shall be addressed through the Community Advisory Committee(CAC). He averred that instead of the member representing Ahoada East Constituency 11,Hon.Edison Ehie to focus on sponsoring bills that will better the lives of his constituents,he is busy sponsoring crisis in Ogbele community, however noted that Hon.Edison has failed for not sponsoring one bill since he emerged as member of the State Assembly. He said that the community and the LGA was recently engulfed in cult related killings and yet the member couldnt raise a motion in the floor of the Assembly to condemn or draw the attention of security agencies over the incessant killings that have displaced so many indigenes and the people of the area. Mr.Orisa called on the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly to warn Hon.Edison Ehie not to cause crisis in the community as the petition is generating tension in the community. He appealed to the committee not to take side and ensure that fairness and justice guides their decision. - Blessed Oyagiri-BBBreporters.
