THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF TRANSPORTATION: His thoughts and desires for radical transformation and development. By Rowland Orlu

THE HONOURABLE MINISTER OF TRANSPORTATION: His thoughts and desires for radical transformation and development.

We considered it an honour to be part the generation that witnessed the service of an active thinker and a thinking transformer that, the Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is.

This excerpt is focused on Amaechi then and now: On politics, Economics and Education. He sought to address our present National issues in the transportation industry and Amaechi's lifetime struggle of mind and body, including his thoughtful proposals on education, political arrangement and the economy.

We must mention that, in all these areas, Amaechi the super Minister gave light in the midst of the darkness that confronted Rivers State at every point while he was an active player in the intellectual and political terrain of his days as the Governor and the present day Nigeria's foremost Transportation Minister.

Though, he is not a Governor presently, we still have the tools that he left us, the product of his versatile mind. We will do ourselves a lot of good if we care to use them.

The Hon Minister ironically shares the passion for developing the Nigerian economy with the late South Western leader Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
The present Hon Minister of Transportation identified key factors in the path to Nigeria's greatness in the area of Transportation:
* Underdevelopment of the mind, arising from ignorance, illiteracy, deficiency in technology and in technical and managerial know-how.
* The under-utilization of the Nation's transportation system.
* The abandonment, decay of viable transportation infrastructures.
* The over all height of corruption, theft and the dwindled image of the industry.

Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi therefore, drew three further propositions from which he began his journey for total transformation of the transport industry:
* He reasoned that all men and women have innate talents or talent ability " and must be given equal opportunity to develop.
* When all talents have been developed fully, each must be given equal opportunity to contribute to scio-economic development of the Nigerian State.
* The society as a whole suffers when all talents in the society are not fully developed.
Therefore, according to Amaechi's transformation theory, the solution to the problems of the transportation industry lies fully in the development and employment of Nigerian men and women.

Finally, it is anticipated that, when a person of thought reasons and arrives at a conclusion, the next expected step is action on the stable of his thought process, unless there is akrasia or weakness of his will power.
We are certain nobody can stand boldly to accuse the Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the super Minister of Transportation of having a weak will at the point of putting his words and thoughts into action, no matter what the sacrifice on his part maybe. Therefore, it is not a surprise that he is harnessing great men and women of talents to steer the transformation process of the transportation sector.
Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, You remain our generation's hero.
