PRESS RELEASE

STOP THE ATTACKS AGAINST OUR MEMBERS, APC TELLS DICKSON, POLICE CP

The Bayelsa State Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson and the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Peter Ogunyanwo, have been called upon, to as a matter of urgency check the growing spate of violent attacks unleashed on APC stalwarts and their family members across the State.

In the hours following the declaration of the PDP‎'s candidate Gov. Seriake Dickson as the winner of the Bayelsa Governorship election, PDP loyalists in the various Local Government areas of the State have started unleashing violence on APC members as well as destroying their ‎houses and looting their personal belongings.

Several cases of violent attacks on family members of APC ‎stalwarts as well as their houses and properties on both sides of Nembe reportedly started last Sunday night after the election results were announced.

So far, attacks on APC members have been reported to the Police authorities in Ogbolomabiri, Bassambiri, Okipiri and Agrisaba in Nembe Local Government area of the State.

Other places where such attacks have been recorded also include Otuokpoti in Ogbia Local Government area, Amassoma, Otuan and Oporoma in Southern Ijaw Local Government area.

Some of the internally displaced persons from these attacks are currently being camped in meeting halls and other facilities at the Achievers Farm in Igboghene axis of Yenagoa.

A statement from the Director of Media and Publicity of the Sylva-Igiri Campaign Organisation, Chief Nathan Egba, urged the Police and the Government to rise up to their responsibilities, in the face of glaring oppression and victimisation of opposition party members.

We still believe that ‎Nigeria is a democracy where the rule of law prevails, rather than a state of nature where everybody will be forced to look after themselves by whatever means, consequently, we are entitled to protection by the State and her agencies such as the Police.

APC members need to see urgent action taken by the Police Commissioner and his men to protect APC members especially in Nembe and Ogbia Local Government Areas, as well as arrest those who have engaged in this unwholesome acts.
