RIVERS TODAY:
DOCTORS,STUDENTS PROTESTS PARALYZE RIVERS STATE,DEMAND SECURITY,WELFARE:
Hundreds of members of the Nigerian Medical Association have taken to the streets of Port Harcourt in protest of the failure of the Nyesom Wike led government to provide security for the people of the state.
Since May,2015 when Chief Wike's tenure came on board, it has been one crime after the other. In the last few months, over 70 doctors have been kidnapped from different areas of the state with some dying in the hands of their captors.
The doctors are further enraged that instead of Chief Wike finding solutions to the incessant kidnap cases,he chose to criticize and blackmail the security agencies that have risen to the challenges of insecurity.
The doctors complained that all their attempts at getting the Governor's attention have proven abortive.
In same vein, students of Rivers state under the auspices of National Union Of Rivers State students(NURSS) are also protesting the high-handedness of the Wike administration.
They are protesting activities of the government that have nearly killed education in the state.
They are angered by the reluctance of Chief Wike to continue with the laudable educational templates instituted by the Amaechi administration. They are accusing Wike of the followings:
*Abandonment of the Model school projects
* Refusal to pay bursary scholarships to Rivers state students
* Refusal to grant them audience and appoint a Special Adviser on students affairs and
* The wicked act of canceling scholarships to Rivers state students schooling abroad and their subsequent deportation by the school authorities.
They complained that all of these are happening despite the billions of naira borrowed by Chief Wike with nothing to show for it.
Amongst others, the students are demanding an improvement in the affairs of students by government.
The protests which are largely peaceful appear headed for the Rivers state government house.
However,Volunteer News has learnt that Chief Wike is not in the mood of granting either of the groups audience as he is said to be planning for his case at the Supreme Court slated for Wednesday,27th Jan.
